World War II RAF 6E/357 Chronograph Watch by Pierce

Few chronograph watches were ever supplied to the RAF during World War II. The limited number that were supplied, mainly by Pierce, were restricted for special air operations, where a chronograph facility was necessary. This historical black-dialed Pierce chronograph dating from circa 1941, was once owned by Konrad Knirim, the author of British Military Timepieces

World War II RAF chronograph watch for sale by Pierce. The chronograph watch with black dial, press fit case-back, chromed brass turned case (40.0 mm x 34.0 mm excluding crown).

The black dial with upper & lower subsidiary dials. The dial with Pierce brand-name, 1-12 hour digits, outer telemeter scales. The watch with lumed hands, and red painted chronograph seconds hand.

To the reverse, case-back with markings, Air Ministry 'AM' '6E/357,' , contract 'Air Ministry' number '162', along with the watch serial number . The high quality Pierce movement nicely-finished and with pseudo-Geneva-stripes to the bridges.

Condition report: The chrome case in overall good clean condition with most chrome present (some wear showing to the high points). Plexi-glass clear. Dial good and original. Hands near-perfect with original blued finish. Movement clean and functioning [no warranty implied]. Case-back particularly clean and free from adverse scratches or damage. Markings clear.

Provenance: Collection of Konrad Knirim. This actual watch shown on page 616 of Knirim's publication, British Military Timepieces. One collection since.

Notes: The Air Ministry 6E/357 classified watches are particularly rare to find in the market place. Exactly how many units were contracted by the Sir Ministry with this classification isn't known, but the numbers are relatively small.
